This is not your parents comp roof!

Composition or asphalt shingle roofs, known simply as "Comp", have changed dramatically over the years.  They are now thicker, stronger, and more aesthetically pleasing. This translates into longer life, less prone to blowing off in high winds, and much wider variety of styles and color blends to choose from.

Good, Better, ... (and even better)

The most widely installed comp shingles today include the 30 year through Lifetime products. The old "15 and 20 year" is all but gone. It was a one piece shingle, and very thin. Today's shingles are two or three pieces laminated together. One section is laminated onto the other, adding dimension to the look. In fact, some call these popular shingles "Dimensionals " or "Laminates " or "Architectual shingles"

What's the difference between one shingle manufacturer and another? (not much) All the manufacture's basic shingles look very similar. But the lifetime shingle is (you guessed it) slightly thicker than the 30.

More and more manufactures are producing upscale comp shingles that are dramatic in appearance.

These are triple thick laminated and look like it. Some have lifetime pro-rated warranties.

Some of the names include Woodcrest and Berkshire by Owens Corning.
